COVID -19 and its Impacts on Indo-US relations

COVID -19 and its Impacts on Indo-US relations:

As we all know that today viral pandemic named as COVID-19 from Wuhan is spreading widely across the globe. Where some spiritual  saint of India have found its cure lies in Ayurveda but because of availability of certain ingradients that is not there in this modern era that is vital in order to prepare its medicinal cure it is taking time however the work is still in progress and of course Narendra Modi's  prayers along with do's and don'ts strategies during Quarantine has worked till date as decreasing cases and control over Corona in India.  Now brief explanation of disease In COVID-19, 'CO' stands for 'corona,' 'VI' for 'virus,' and 'D' for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as “2019 novel coronavirus” or “2019-nCoV”. There are many types of human coronaviruses including some that commonly cause mild upper-respiratory tract illnesses.

Typical symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Atypical symptoms include chills, malaise, sore throat, increased confusion, rhinorrhea or nasal congestion, myalgia, dizziness, headache, nausea, and diarrhea.
Using available preliminary data, the median time from onset to clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately 2 weeks and is 3-6 weeks for patients with severe or critical disease.
In India lockdown Impacts :-
Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday directed state waqf boards to ensure strict implementation of lockdown and social distancing guidelines during Ramzan starting next week amid the coronavirus pandemic.
At a meeting via video conferencing, Naqvi asked the state waqf boards’ officials to create awareness among people to offer prayers and perform other religious rituals like “iftar (breaking of fast)” during Ramzan, which begins on 24-25 April, staying inside their homes.

Stressing on the migrant labourers issue, Rahul Gandhi said "Centre needs to work on a strategy on migrant workers. If you don't solve the problem, there will be social unrest. People are starving, you have to fix it. The government has to be sensitive and respond quickly."
"Our government must be very compassionate in dealing with migrants," he said.
Lockdown doesn't defeat the virus, it stops the virus for some time, said Rahul Gandhi during an online press conference on Thursday. "Lockdown is like a pause button. It is in no way a solution to the virus. when we come out of lockdown, the virus will start its work again. We need to have a strategy for that. Ramp up testing abilities, prepare hospitals," he adds.
Rahul further proposed scaling of testing and using testing strategically across the nation.

Coming down to the scientific research and methodologies adopted by doctors as the fact
India is the biggest producer and exporter of hydroxychloroquine, Trump has called for use
Trump was asked whether there will be retaliation for US banning medical exports
He cited India banning HCQ as example did not threaten retaliation

India had banned all exports of the drug after the COVID-19 pandemic swept through the globe. Trump said, reported ANI, "I spoke to him PM Modi on Sunday morning and I said we appreciate it that you are allowing our supply of hydroxychloroquine to come out. If he doesn't allow it to come out, that would be okay, but of course, there may be retaliation, why wouldn't there be?" US President Donald Trump don't like that decision He added I didn't hear that that was his decision. I know that he stopped it for other countries. I spoke to him yesterday, we had a very good talk and we will see whether or not that's his ...

US President Trump made the request for releasing the hold on hydroxychloroquine in a phone call with PM Modi Sunday evening.

There is no proven evidence yet that hydroxychloroquine works against the coronavirus. There have been some studies and trials, but scientists and experts have said they were either too small or without the necessary protocols to establish its effectiveness. Physicians have been using it nevertheless, even in the United States.

President Trump has spoken of hydroxychloroquine as a potential “game-changer” many times, with experts of his coronavirus task force adding the usual cautionary note every time that the drug has no proven benefits for Covid-19 patients.

The US drug regulator, the Food and Drug Administration, granted “compassionate use” authorization for the use of hydroxychloroquine (or chloroquine), to be prescribed to severely ill patients in mid-March. Last week, the regulator gave it emergency-use authorization. And it is being tried on COVID-10 patients in New York City, the epicentre of the American outbreak.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears to have bowed to President Donald Trump's demands that he lift a ban on the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine, which Trump has touted as a treatment option for COVID-19 coronavirus patients despite concern among medical experts.

India's external affairs ministry announced Tuesday that the country will license hydroxychloroquine "in appropriate quantities to all our neighbouring countries who are dependent on our capabilities," plus some nations "particularly badly affected" by the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Hindustan Times.

The announcement represents a U-turn by Modi's government, given that it only placed an export ban on the drug and its formulations on Saturday "without any exceptions."

Trump spoke with Modi by phone on Sunday, urging him to lift the ban and allow exports to the U.S. The president has repeatedly suggested that hydroxychloroquine can be used as a treatment for coronavirus. Last week, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provided the drug with an "emergency use authorization" to use on coronavirus patients in some circumstances, though experts have warned there is insufficient evidence to support its use to treat COVID-19.

Trump has tried to stop medical experts discussing the merits of the treatment, even blocking National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci from answering a question about the drug on Sunday. Fauci has repeatedly wanted that any evidence of its efficacy is anecdotal.

Joint Indo-US Strategy :-

The Foreign Ministers of India and USA based on decision at Modi-Trump summit on fighting global health challenges like Covid-19 could adopt a joint strategy in combatting the deadly virus.

US secretary of state Mike Pompeo and external affairs minister S Jaishankar spoke to each other on March 14 and discussed ways in which India and the United States could cooperate to address the global challenge posed by the Covid-19 outbreak, said US State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus.

The conversation took place less than a month after US President Donald Trump’s India visit, which had focused on partnership in the health sector among other areas.

“In support of global efforts to prevent, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks such as novel Covid-19, Prime Minister Modi and President Trump committed to continuing their successful efforts in the areas of prevention, early detection, and rapid outbreak response,” said a joint Indo-US statement issued during President Trump’s visit.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed 3,000 in the US and the death toll increased to at least 61 people while in India the number of confirmed cases increased to 114, including foreign nationals, on Monday.

Besides exploring ways to cooperate with the US on the issue, India is looking to team up with other countries as well to contain the spread of coronavirus. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative in this regard. “I am also aware that (Indian) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to organise a link-up between all the G20 leaders. I think that’s a commendable initiative. Australia obviously supports that,” Morrison said at a press conference.

G20, or the world’s top 20 economies, including India, had met in Riyadh on Thursday last week and decided to enhance cooperation and coordination to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, protect people, mitigate the economic impact and maintain economic stability while avoiding stigmatisation, ET had first reported on Saturday.

A G20 finance meeting is also in offing to deal with the economic impact of the pandemic.

At last week’s meeting, the G20 states decided to step up support for the development of early warning systems, appropriate treatments and vaccine. They decided to support and work closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) to monitor the outbreak, share relevant information, and encourage preventive measures, early detection and clinical care.

G20 finance ministers and central bank governors agreed to use all available policy tools, including appropriate fiscal and monetary measures, to respond to the economic impact of Covid-19.

As there is no proven cure for this pandemic as how US President deals with this critical call of nature or someone's evil mind from Wuhan who intervened the nature and ended up into creation of a catastrophe and wonder till date that what actually have just happened...
